Lt Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club will lock horns with Prime Doleshwar Sporting Club in the final showdown of the Dhaka Premier League (DPL) Twenty20 Cricket Tournament at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium (SBNCS) in Mirpur today.
The match, a night-affair, will be live telecast at a private satellite Television channel will begin at 6:00pm.
Both Sheikh Jamal and Prime Doleshwar held their pre-final day practice session at the national academy of the SBNCS yesterday.
Even if they play well at domestic stage, none of them had history of winning any trophy. But Sheikh Jamal became runners-up in the last edition of the 50-over Dhaka Premier League (BPL). Both they have been emerged in the final of the newly-inducted T20 tourney by playing their better brand of cricket what they want to continue in the final also.
Sheikh Jamal captain Nurul Hasan Sohan, who played for Dhaka Dynamites in the recently-concluded BPL said that he wants to be champion to forget the regret of BPL title.
“My team in BPL played in the final but did not win the title. But this time we will have target to be champion as it’s same kind of tournament. It would be feeling better if we could be championed,” said Nurul Hasan Sohan.
“Probably more foreign players perform in BPL, so the hype of the tournament remains more. But if you look at the prospect of Bangladesh, it’s the top-tier tournament of the country. I’m counting it in that sense,” Sohan told media after a formal photo session with DPL T20 trophy at the SBNCS in Mirpur yesterday.
However, Prime Doleshwar skipper Forhad Reza, who played for Rangpur Riders in BPL, said that the way they sailed through the group stage and semifinal that will be remained in the final.
“I was with Rangpur Riders in BPL. We won six matches on the trot. I had to struggle at the initial stage of the tournament. Then we won match after match at the stretch. But we didn’t champion. It’s all possible in cricket,” said Forhad Reza.
“Actually the team who will play well will have chance to mainly win. And so, they will try their best to win the final,” he told media after their training session.
When asked about the opponent in the final, the pace all-rounder said, “They (Sheikh Jamal) are very good team. They played well in this tournament. There is Zia (ur Rahman) bhai along with some good players in the team. Of course we’ll seek to do our work in right way. Let’s see what happen.”
“They have Zia bhai along with two-three power players, who can make heavy hit. They have good bowling. Shahidul is there,” he also said.
“Both the teams are equally balanced. In T20, the team who played well will have possibility to win the match,” he added.
“Actually, it’s not possible to do improve playing only two matches. If there are some more matches, it will obviously be understood the improvement of the players.
“The plan we had for the last match that will be remained around the final match also. I will try to do with bat and ball as much as possible for the team’s success.”
“In BPL, we, the local players, get less number of chances. Problem is that we can play less number of T20 matches. Before coming here to play BPL, foreign players play T20 matches. We don’t play more than six or eight or ten matches in a year. If we could play eight-ten matches before the BPL, our games in T20 will be improved. For bowling at death overs, I got help much from his Riders’ computer analyst, Sri.”
