Students of Gobindashi Government Primary School in Nagarpur Upazila of Tangail district have been attending their classes under the open sky for the last two years as the school building was devoured by the Dhaleshwari River.

Local people demand to build new building for the school, sooner the better. From sources it is learned that there are about 100 students in the school and four teachers have been posted for imparting lessons. The number of students have been declining for lack of proper environment, school building.

Many students left the school and took admission to other government primary and kindergarten schools.  The school building with its playground has been devoured by the Dhaleswari River in 2017 during a devastating flood.

Since then the students have to attend the classes under open sky. The classes of the school are being held at the yard of a house as the land of the school has been eroded into the river. Abdul Hamid, Suruj Ali, guardians of the students of the school, said the teachers have to take classes at the yard of other persons of the locality. They have become the victims of the river erosion. The school devoured by the river several times. But it was not reconstructed in safe place. The students have to face a lot of inconveniences as they have to attend the classes in cold and in the rain. The number of students has been decreasing day by day, they added.

Headmaster of the school Azom Ali said if the school building is not built before the rainy season, it will be difficult to attend the classes. Sipra Sarker Upazila AEO said ‘The school is being devoured by the river several times. Imparting education is being hampered. The attendances are being thinning.  The higher authority has been requested to reconstruct the school building. Temporary building will be constructed to cope with erosion.’
