Will Joya stay in Bollywood remake of �Rajkahini�?

Talented Bangladeshi actress Joya Ahsan-acted Srijit Mukherji’s upcoming Partition tale ‘Rajkahini’ has already become a centre of attraction among the audience of Kolkata even before its release. It is believed that the much-talked about film will certainly add additional colour to Durga Puja this year. Crossing the boundary of Kolkata—where the film is set to release on October 16, the echoes of the film’s appeal has also reached Bollywood. The film was premiered in a festive manner recently in Kolkata. After watching the film, noted Bollywood filmmaker like Mahesh Bhatt tweeted about it one after another. The reason behind Mahesh Bhatt’s such concern centring the film is that ‘Rajkahini’ is on its way to being remade in Hindi as ‘Lakir’. It will be a joint venture between Mahesh and Mukesh Bhatt’s Vishesh Films and ‘Rajkahini’s producer Shree Venkatesh Films (SVF). If Bhatt’s plan goes on, this film will mark the directorial debut of Srijit Mukherji in Bollywood. Besides, the possibility of appearing in a Bollywood film is also seen intensely for Dhallywood actress Joya Ahsan—who, with her brilliant presence in the film, won the heart of Mahesh Bhatt as well as earned the attention of many others who produce films in the Kolkata and Bollywood film industry.
Speaking about ‘Rajkahini’ that deals with the trauma of displaced women in a brothel after the Radcliffe line was arbitrarily drawn, Bhatt said, “I’m moved by its emotional starkness. The use of the last four stanzas of Tagore’s Jana-gana-mana in the soundtrack has had a cleansing effect on me.”
Shrikant Mohta of SVF said Bhatt’s offer to jointly remake ‘Rajkahini’ has left him speechless. “He wants to speak to the highest authorities in Bangladesh and Pakistan to release ‘Rajkahini’ there. The closest I came to such an experience was after producing ‘Chokher Bali’. Also, it’s for the first time that a remake of a film has been finalized even before it’s release,” Mohta said. To note, Joya’s ‘Rajkahini’ has been produced based on a historic plot about the partition of Bengal, which has an ensemble cast containing eleven major female characters. In 1947 August, the British passed a bill regarding the partition of Bengal. The movie primarily revolves around a Zamindar house in Rajshahi district of Bengal. The partition border would run through the middle of the house and how the residents of the house defend their freedom.
On the other hand, cinegoers of Dhaka are also showing their wholehearted interest about the film; their interest has been stimulated mainly for two reasons—firstly, glamorous and brilliant Joya from Bangladesh has played a vital role in the film, and secondly, the film has been directed by noted Kolkata filmmaker Srijit Mukherji.
