10 aspirants submit nomination

Some 10 aspirants submitted nomination papers on the last date yesterday to contest in Tangail-4 (Kalihati) by-election, scheduled for November 10. According to Election Commission sources, four aspirants have submitted nomination papers from Krishak Sramik Janata League. They are Kader Siddiqui, his wife Nasrin Siddiqui, Iqbal Siddiqui and Hasmot Ali. Other candidates are Hasan Imam Khan Sohel Hazari from Awami League, Imrul Kayes from National People’s Party, Mostaque Hossain Ratan from Jatiya Party (Ershad), Sadek Siddiki from Jatiya Party (Monju), Abdul Alim (Independent), and Ataur Rahman Khan. Krishak Sramik Janata League President Kader Siddiqui has declared that he would not let the by-polls go unchallenged. The scrutiny of the nomination papers will be held tomorrow. The last date for withdrawal of candidature has been fixed on October 21. The seat has fallen vacant following the resignation of the ex-minister and Awami League leader Abdul Latif Siddiqui. Over 2.77 lakh voters are entitled to exercise their franchise in the constituency.
