Police recovered the bodies of a newlywed couple from a house at Hemayetpur Harindhara in Savar, on the outskirts of the capital on Monday. The deceased were identified as Mohamamd Ali, 22, and his wife Rumi Khatun, 16, of Salanchar in Kazipur upazila of Sirajganj district.
The couple got married only three days ago, local people said.
Police said locals found their bodies hanging from the ceiling of the house. Police recovered the bodies and sent them to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital.
Ali was a college student and Rumi worked at a readymade garment factory. Locals claimed they killed themselves after failing to get consent of their families.
Akhil Khandaker, a sub-inspector at Savar Model Police Station, said they were waiting for the post-mortem report to learn about the real reason behind the deaths.
