Different student bodies submitted nomination forms yesterday to contest the upcoming Dhaka University Central Students’ Union and hall union elections scheduled for March 11. 234 aspirants submitted nominations forms for 25 posts in the DUCSU polls and 594 aspirants submitted nomination for 18 posts in hall union elections, said Chief Returning Officer S M Mahfuzur Rahman. Eight panels for DUCSU polls was announced till yesterday. Among the panels leaders of quota reform protest announced an independent panel for the polls. They made Nurul Haque Nur vice-president candidate of the panel and Rashed Khan general secretary contender and Faruk Hasan assistant general secretary nominee.
All of them are joint conveners of Bangladesh Sadharan Chhatra Adhikar Sangrakkhan parishad, the platform that spearheaded the quota reform protest. Meanwhile, A “rebel” faction of Bangladesh Chhatra League, led by vice-president of its recently dissolved central committee Sohan Rahman Khan, withdrew its panel following a meeting with the central Awami League leaders on Monday night.
Joint General Secretary of Awami League Jahangir Kabir Nanak, Organising Secretary AFM Bahauddin Nasim, Forest and Environment Secretary Delowar Hossain, Deputy Office Secretary Barrister Biplab Barua, Swechchasebak League President Molla Md Abu Kausar and former Health and Population Affairs Secretary of AL Dr Badiuzzaman Bhuiyan were present at the meeting.
