Senior journalists and academics at a discussion on the occasion of a daylong training workshop titled “Mobile Journalism, the future of Journalism: A Hands on Training” at Rajshahi University (RU) campus on Monday stressed the need for generating competent workforce to fulfill the gradually mounting demands in various journalistic fields especially mobile and electronic journalism. They viewed that there is no alternative to making the working journalists competent in various platforms to survive in the present and upcoming competitive era of flourishing information technology. Many media experts are of the opinion that the future will be mobile which is really changing the trend of today’s journalism.
There is an immense need for building competent human resources to face the challenges of future journalism. A competent person is an asset for the country. By utilising the skills a person can improve his/her conditions greatly and can contribute to the development of the country. On the other hand, an incompetent person is a liability and an object of pity. Skilled manpower indicates a person who is trained, educated, energetic, experienced, devoted to his/her field and is capable of doing any specific work in a balanced way and efficiently.
Only competent persons can free the country from the curse of unemployment and contribute immensely to the economic development of the country. Competent persons usually do not face problems in getting jobs in their native country for survival. There are people who, equipped with proper skills, even do not care for employments, rather they create employments for themselves and others. These people have great demand in their native land as well as in the global job markets.
Mobile journalism can contribute to reduction of unemployment problem in the country significantly. The opportunity for getting government jobs is very limited. There are immense possibilities for the youths to become self-reliant by engaging themselves in various income-generating activities. Educated youths can be self-reliant through online outsourcing. It can be an excellent opportunity for the young people to explore this avenue. They can also create employment opportunities for other unemployed youths. It is very important to enhance skill on ICT to become good freelancers for earning foreign currency. The youths can come forward with their education, particularly good command on English language, to expand the horizon of employment opportunities to live a life with dignity.
