Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) has again imposed restriction on travel by domestic flights without showing National Identity Card (NID) with photograph. The CAAB issued a circular signed by its chairman Air Vice-Marshal M Naim Hasan on Monday a day after the incident of an attempt to hijack a flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines in Chattogram.
The domestic passengers from now on will mandatorily have to show their legal NID or Smart Card, Passports, driving licence and ID card of their respective working stations before collecting boarding pass for the sake of security, said the circular.
The airlines concerned have also been given strong message not to issue boarding passes without ID cards with photographs, CAAB sources said.
The state run Biman Bangladesh Airlines and private airlines-US-Bangla Airlines, Novo Air and Regent Airways operate regular flights in national and international routes.
Sources said, the CAAB earlier issued a number of circulations to the airlines to make showing ID cards mandatory but they were not followed accordingly.
General Manager (Public Relation Department) of Biman Bangladesh Shakil Meraj told The Independent that the authorities made it mandatory to show photo ID to ensure safety of the flight operation and security of the passengers.
After issuance of the circular by flight safety and regulation department of the CAAB, the Biman Bangladesh Airlines served notice in this regard to all of its domestic airports both in Bangla and English language, he said.
Biman Bangladesh Airlines has executed the restriction from yesterday.
