Targets to bowl at right channel

Ebadat awaits Test debut

Fast bowler Ebadat Hossain has the high hopes on thriving in the New Zealand condition which is not easier for the visiting fast bowlers even though the condition is entirely helpful for the pace bowlers.

Ebadat said his initial target is to maintain the line and length as he believes if he can bowl in the right channel he would be confident to go for ultimate kill. But all depends on whether he can make his debut for Bangladesh when the first Test begins tomorrow (Thursday).

Ebadat is yet to play in any format of cricket for Bangladesh but his action is such that prompts even Courtney Walsh insisting that he could be a good Test bowler if he remains ever hard-working.

“The main thing is to thrive in the New Zealand condition is to maintain right channel. I have talked to Mustafizur Rahman who is more experienced amongst the pace bowlers who are in now in New Zealand. Mustafizur revealed we need to deliver four balls in right channel and then we should try to deliver two wicket-taking balls. This thinking strikes me because if I can bowl in right channel it would give me the confidence,” Ebadat told the reporters at Hamilton yesterday.

Ebadat though doesn’t play any game for national team as of now he features regularly in Bangladesh A team. He even toured in New Zealand in 2016 with the second string Bangladesh side but his performance was not noteworthy.

He said the experience of that tour made him tougher and technically better and claimed that he now knows in which length he should bowl in this condition.

“When I toured here in 2016, it was tough for me to cope with the condition. Here it is extremely cold and windy. You have to adjust with the wind to fix your length which is quite difficult for the visiting bowlers. But playing here earlier gave me the confidence. If I get chance to play in the final XI definitely I will try to bring up all my experiences here,” he remarked.

“The two-day practice match here is good for us. Our batsmen made runs though our bowlers couldn’t bowl enough, we proved our capabilities in short time. Hopefully the first Test will be better for us,” he believed.

What made Ebadat more confident was his continuous hard-work despite not being featured in the national team.

“I never give up the hopes,” the bowler from Sylhet said. “I remain hard working as I was from the beginning and worked with Champaka Ramanayake and Courtney Walsh. They gave me some tips and showed me the way to be successful. Walsh even said me that I can be good Test bowler if I keep continuing the hard work. My eventual goal is to be good Test bowler indeed. Hopefully I will get better and better.”

While Taskin Ahmed is not in the team because of his ankle injury, Ebadat is considered to be the go-to bowler of captain because of his ability to generate pace which is imperative to be successful in New Zealand condition.

Ebadat believes he can make his captain proud with his pace but he insisted on fixing the line and length initially.

“The important thing is to maintain right line and length. If the line and length is not correct, you can’t be successful just with express pace. So if I find my right length, hopefully I will get faster,” he said.
