Diya Siddique salvaged some pride for Bangladesh as she claimed the women’s recurve singles event gold in the 3rd ISSF International Solidarity Archery Championship which concluded at Shaheed Ahsan Ullah Stadium in Gazipur yesterday.

Diya defeated Shojamehr Shiva of Iran by 6-4 sets in the final to earn the second gold medal for the country. Earlier  Bannya Akhter, Susmita Banik and Shyamoli Roy earned the first gold for Bangladesh in women’s compound team event. They defeated Pragati, Pawar Isha Ketan and Sanchita Tiwari of India by 130-125 points in a closely contested final.

In fact last two years champions Bangladesh archers did not fare well this time as they managed only a couple of gold medals. India topped the table with a haul of ten medals which included four gold. Bangladesh finished a far distant with nine medals that included two gold medals.

Bangladesh bagged six gold medals in the last edition in 2018 and also finished top in the maiden edition in 2017 with five gold medals.

Chahal Ritik,  Jawkar Prathamesh Samadhan and Vidyarthi Chirag won the first gold for India in the men’s compound team event.

Germany, who participated in the tournament for the first time, ran away with the maiden gold in the compound mixed event beating India by 156-153.

Pragati of India pocketed the coveted  women’s compound singles event beating  Heigenhauser Kristina of Germany in the final.

The compound men’s singles title went to Chen Chieh-Lun who defeated Laube Marcus of Germany.

Shojamehr Shiva, Ghassemi Parmida and Alipoor of Iran annexed women’s recurve team gold beating India in the final.

India won the remaining two gold medals in recurve mixed team event and recurve men’s team event.

Thailand won the lone gold through Thgepna Denchai in men’s recurve singles event.
