Opener
Shamsur Rahman Shuvo slammed an unbeaten century after the six-wicket haul of left arm spinner Arafat Sunny as Dhaka Metro are in favourable position to take a lead against Dhaka Division on the second day of the third round match of National Cricket League yesterday at Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Stadium.
Chittagong Division amassed 444 for seven against Barisal riding on centuries from Tamim Iqbal and Tasamul Haque at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium while Rajshahi scored 183 for three after Imtiaz Hossain’s 154 drove Sylhet to 328 before being all out at Shaheed Chandu Stadium in Bogra. Khulna Division reached 30 for no loss in the second innings and took a slim 21 runs lead over Rangpur thanks to Mehedy Hassan Miraj’s yet another six-wicket haul in a closely contested match at Sheikh Abu Naser Stadium.
Metro vs Dhaka
Arafat Sunny claimed six for 96 as Dhaka Division were bowled out for 327 on day two, resuming the day on 261 for four in Tier-1 game. Starting the day with 89, Roqibul Hasan eyed a century but was dismissed on 99 by Asif Ahmed Ratul. His dismissal led to Dhaka’s collapse as they lost the last five wickets for just 40 runs.
Arafat Sunny dealt the blow in ruining the Dhaka’s party in fact. He however is on the verge of hattrick after taking last two wickets in consecutive deliveries. The first ball wicket in Dhaka’s second innings would give him the taste of hattrick.
Shamsur Rahman Shuvo thereafter took the onus to take the side in a strong position by hitting 118 not out which studded with 13 fours and a six. He and Saikat Ali gave the side a solid base sharing 98 runs in opening stand after which they lost wicket in quick space. Mehrab Junior, batting with 14, resisted the rot alongside Shuvo as Metro reached 221 for four before the umpires called it a day.
Chittagong vs Barisal
Tamim Iqbal added 47 runs to his overnight 90 to score 137 which designed with 17 fours and three sixes. His young teammate Tasamul Haque also hit 107 as the duo shared 154 runs for the third wicket to help Chittagong pile up a strong total. Before the bails were drawn Chittagong were 444 for seven in Tier-2 game. Irfan Shukkur was the other notable scorer with 47. Mohammad Saifuddin and Naeem Islam Junior were batting on 17 and seven runs respectively. Sohag Gazi grabbed three for 114 for Barisal.
Rajshahi vs Sylhet
The lower order batsman fared badly which hastened Sylhet’s downfall as they lost the rest of the six wickets for 92 runs to be all out for 327 runs, starting the day on 236 for four.
Imtiaz Hossain was dismissed on 154 while his overnight partner Ruman Ahmed made 82. Sanjmaul Islam dealt the blow with four for 73.
Rajshahi made a steady progress by reaching 183 for three, with Farhad Hossain batting on 80 after opener Namzul Hossain Shanto’s 62 runs gave the side a strong start in Tier-2 game.
Khulna vs Rangpur
Mehedy Hasan Miraj yet again claimed six while his fellow spinner Abdur Razzak took four to confound the Rangpur batsmen but the defending champions still obtained nine runs lead thanks to Nasir Hossain’s 96 runs. They however were bowled out for 220, resuming the day 23 for two in Tier-1 game.
Captain Nasir hit a dozen of boundaries and one six in his fighting 96 off 150 when his colleagues hardly negotiated the threat of Miraj and Razzak.
Khulna however were 30 for no loss with 21 runs lead at the end of the second day with Imrul
Kayes and Mehedi Hasan batting on 13 and 17 runs respectively.
