Food minister Quamrul Islam yesterday apprehended that BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia’s return to the country has become uncertain.
"Khaleda Zia is hatching conspiracies against the country from London. She may not return home. In the meantime, leaders and workers of the BNP-Jamaat combine will follow the directives of Khaleda Zia and try to create anarchy in the country to destabilise the government," he said.
Quamrul Islam said this while addressing a discussion organised by Bangabandhu Sangskritik Jote at the Dhaka Reporters’ Unity (DRU) in the city. He said although the country is moving ahead under the astute leadership of Sheikh Hasina, anti-liberation forces are plotting to undo all her achievements.
The minister described the recent murders of two foreigners as "very unfortunate". He said the murders have sparked a concern for the government. “Now we're worried about the security of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. We don’t want to see a repeat of the August 15 grenade blast incident,” he said.
“I think the main objective of the two foreigners’ murder ahead of the execution of two war criminals is to create anarchy in the country. The BNP-Jamaat combine might have a hand in the killing,” he added.
