Int’l confce begins February 23

A two-day international conference ‘Nirikh’ will begin on Rajshahi University (RU) campus on Saturday. ‘Nirikh’, a Bangla literature based organisation of Bangle department of RU, will organised the programme for the second time on the campus while 58 Bangla literature researchers and poets from different countries are expected to attend the programme.
Prof Dr Shafiqunnabi Samadi disclosed the information at a press conference held on university deans’ complex around 12pm of the campus.
Prof Tapudhir Vottocharga, former vice-chancellor of Asham University, will inaugurate the programme at TSCC on the university. RU vice-chancellor Prof Dr M Abdus Sobhan will be the chief guest while Professor of Modern South Asian Language and Literature of Germany Dr Hans Harder will present as special guest and Prof Dr Shafiqunnabi Samadi will chair the programme.
Besides, around 60 Bangla literature based papers will be presented at the programme by the researchers of Bangladesh, India and Germany, he added.
Assistant professor Mst Shamsunnahar of Bangle department and Prof Mostofa Tariqul Ahsan of folklore, among others, were present on the conference. The conference will remain open from 8am to 6pm.
Three-day book fair begins at IU

A three-day book fair began at Islamic University in Kushtia yesterday amid festive mood and much enthusiasm. The university authorities organised the fair on the occasion of InternationalMother Language Day.
IU Vice-chancellor Professor M Harun-Ur-Rashid Askari inaugurated the fair adjacent to the university's Arts' Faculty building as the chief guest around 11:30am.
IU pro-VC Prof M Shahinoor Rahman, short story writer Professor Hasan Azizul Huq of Rajshahi University, IU Treasurer Professor M Selim Toha and former Bangla Academy director general, also IU Bangabandhu Chair Professor Shamsuzzaman Khan were present as special guests. Among others, IU former proctor and syndicate member Prof M Mahbubar Rahman, IIER director Prof M Maher Ali, student advisor Prof Poresh Chandra Barman and IU Assistant Proctor M Anisur Rahman were present.
