Bangladesh archers will get another opportunity to improve their global rankings as the 3rd ISSF International Solidarity World Ranking Archery Championship kicks off at Shaheed Ahasanullah Master Stadium in Gazipur on February 23.
About 150 male and female archers drawn from 26 countries are taking part in the four-day meet organised by Bangladesh Archery Federation (BAF) BAF President Lt Gen (retd) Md Mainul Islam stated this at a crowded press conference at National Sports Council auditorium in the capital yesterday.
“The main aim to stage the competition would be to build Bangladesh image all over the world and to cement the bond of friendship among the participating nations,” said the BAF president.
“The competition would also open the door for Bangladesh archers to enrich their international experience as well as sharing the latest skills and techniques to develop them into international reputed archers.”
BAF General Secretary Kazi Rajib Uddin Ahmed Chapal and BAF publicity secretary Rafiqul Islam Tipu were also present.
BAF has been also working to prepare international standard archers as it has decided to participate in the next Olympic Games in Tokyo next year. “We are strongly share the motto of our sponsor City Group i.e. “Teer Go for Gold’ and to fulfill our aspiration, we have sent our key archer Roman Sana to Switzerland to attain high training, viewed the BAF preside. Roman Sana is now in Dhaka to represent the country in the 3rd ISSF Tournament.
Moreover, the federation has appointed a German coach for a long time to groom the promising and youth archers.
Kazi Rajib Uddin Ahmed said that the archers will vie for ten gold medals in ten events. He informed that last time Bangladesh won six gold and five in the first edition. However, he refrained from saying any medal hauling target this time. “You see world ranking archers from Germany, India and other countries will turn up for competition. So I can only expect that Bangladesh archers would fare well.” Four out of 25 foreign teams so far arrived in Dhaka. Most of countries are due here on February 22, said the BAF secretary.
