DPL T20 begins Feb 25

Sports Reporter, Dhaka

Cricket Committee of Dhaka Metropolis (CCDM) is planning to live telecast some matches including semi-finals and final of the looming Dhaka Premier Division Twenty20 Cricket League after the newly-inducted T20 league is recognised by International Cricket Council (ICC).

The T20 League will be treated the likes of the blockbuster T20 tournaments across the globe such as Indian Premier League (IPL), Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), Caribbean Premier League (CPL), Pakistan Super League (PSL) and so on. But it will be considered second after BPL in Bangladesh.

CCDM chairman Kazi Inam Ahmed Chowdhury made the disclosure to media at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium (DBNCS) in Mirpur yesterday following holding the groupings of the teams for the maiden edition of the T20 League.

Ahmed was flunked by BCB CEO Nizamuddin Chowhdury, CCDM vice- president Masuduzzaman, its member secretary Ali Hossain, coordinator Amin Khan and in-charge Tawhid Mahmood on the occasion.

“We’ve finally arranged two T20 leagues after being talked since the last two years. We’ve finished First Division T20 Cricket League. And then we’re going to host Dhaka Premier T20 League, sponsored by Walton,” said Kazi Inam Ahmed.

“Basically the league is being done by four groups. We’ve done the groupings on the basis of the last year’s standings. Firstly, we’ve given the top four teams in pole position of  four respective group- A, B, C and D. We requested to the 12 participating club’s officials to present in the ceremony. Actually we’ve done the rest of the works of the groupings in the presence of them all with the help of the remaining eight teams,” Ahmed told media.

By lottery, the grouping is finalised after being drawn Abahani   Limited,  Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club, Legends of Rupganj and Prime Doleshwar Sporting Club are the top seeds of four groups on the basis .of the last year standings.

As per the groupings, holders Abahani Limited, Prime Bank Cricket Club and Brothers Union have been spitted in Group-A, while defending runners-up Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club, Khelaghar Samaj Kallayan Samity and newly-promoted Uttara Sporting Club have been drawn in Group-B.

On the other hand, Legends of Rupganj, Mohammedan Sporting Club and Shinepukur Cricket Club have been clubbed in Group-C, whilst Group-D has been formed by Prime Doleshwar Sporting club, Gazi Group Cricketers and new-entrant Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protishtan (BKSP). The maiden edition of the DPL T20 League is all set to get underway on February 25.

Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Chowdhury Stadium in Fatullah will host group-phase matches with Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, who will also feature the high-voltage semi-finals and final of the league.

All the group-phase matches will be held in between February 25 and 28 respectively.

Both the semi-final matches will be played at the SBNCS on March 1. Following a day break, then the final of the meet will be decided under floodlight at the Home of Cricket on March 3.

However, it’s learnt that the apex body of the country’s domestic cricket club has planned to disburse some additional individual awards to make the tournament more colourful and attractive one to inspire the local players.

The special award will be given for the long-distant six, the most valuable player, the highest number of sixes, the highest wicket-taker, the highest run-getter beside the player of the final and player of the tournament.
