Officers of the Detective Branch (DB) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested the deputy coordinator of the Middle East-based militant outfit, Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS), from Baridhara DOHS area in the city last night.
The arrestee was identified as Abdullah Al Galib, who himself claimed he was the deputy coordinator in the country of the global terror outfit, popularly known as IS.
DMP (DB West) deputy commissioner Shaikh Nazmul Alam disclosed that after receiving secret information, a DB team arrested Abdullah Al Galib when he was holding a secret meeting with his accomplices at Baridhara area. His accomplices, however, managed to escape.
Galib’s father is a retired Army officer, identified as Maj. Mohammad Abdullah. He has completed his A and O levels and hails from Jessore. The terrorist started trading in perfumes after completing his education.
Galib was organising the publications of the organization, collecting funds, and recruiting new members and giving them shelter.
“We seized a passport, four hard disks, two portable hard disks, 10 CDs, one cap with the words ‘Made in Pakistan' on it, one CPU, 43 jihadi books of different writers, and three monthly newspapers from his possession,” DC Nazmul disclosed.
Galib confessed that he was a former member of Hizbut Tahrir and a coordinator of the recently banned Islamist outfit, Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT).
“I am currently working for an IS-style newly formed group, Zunaid Al Tawhid Wal Khilafah,” the top DB official quoted the militant leader as saying.
The aim behind the formation of the militant outfit was to establish a Khelafat state after overthrowing the government. To achieve this goal, the newly formed Islamist outfit had planned to kill some important persons and target establishments of the country, DC Nazmul said, after grilling the militant.
“We are trying to know their names now,” he added.
A video seized from Galib’s house was screened at the conference. It showed nine masked men wearing sports trousers and black T-shirts, posing with handguns—pistols and revolvers.
The Kalima, declaration of the faith in Allah, was seen written on a banner behind them. It appeared that the video was taken at a house inside the country.
DC Nazmul told reporters that the video was also uploaded on the organisation’s website: www.attahreedmedia.wordpress.com.
