Eight houses gutted in Ctg

At least eight dwelling houses were gutted in a fire at Fateyapur village under Hathazari upazila of the district yesterday morning.
Jashim Uddin, deputy assistant director of Fire Service and Civil Defence in Chattogram, said the fire originated from an electric short-circuit at a dwelling house in the area around 5.05 am and quickly engulfed the adjoining houses.
Two firefighting units from Hathazari upazila rushed to the spot and brought the flame under control around 8.55 am. Victims claimed that the fire damaged property worth about Taka seven lakh, the source added.
93 arrested on various charges
UNB, Khulna
District and Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP) arrested a total of 93 people in separate drives conducted from Tuesday morning to Wednesday morning.
Md Anisur Rahman, additional superintendent of district police, said that police conducted drives in nine upazilas of the district and arrested 53 accused including 11 drug peddlers.
Police also recovered 22 yaba tablets and 16 gram hemp.
Sheikh Moniruzzaman Mithu, additional deputy commissioner of KMP, said that police in regular drives conducted in areas under eight police stations also arrested 40 accused including six in those of drugs.
They also recovered 35 yaba tablets, 10gram hemp and 14 bottles of phensedyl.
