A writ petition was filed yesterday with the High Court (HC) seeking its directives on the government to remove electricity poles on roads and highways across the country as they hinder people’s movement and pose accident risks.
An HC bench is likely to hold the hearing on the petition today, the lawyer concerned said. Supreme Court (SC) lawyer barrister Sayedul Haque Suman filed the writ petition with the related branch of the HC, seeking necessary directives
from the HC on the government to remove the electricity poles on the roads and highways across the country.
In the petition, Suman has also prayed to the HC to issue a rule on the government to explain why setting up electricity poles on the roads and highways that obstruct public movement should not be declared illegal.
The petitioner filed the petition after annexing some photos of inconveniently placed electricity poles on the highways and roads.
According to the law, such poles cannot remain on the roads as they obstruct people's movement, the petition said.
