One to die, 2 get life for murder

A court yesterday convicted three siblings and sentenced one to death and two others to life term imprisonment for killing their brother-in-law in Pakundia upazila in 2012.
The condemned convict is Moazzam Hossain Mozu while the lifers are-Mobarak and Arman. All of them were tried in absentia.
The court also fined them Tk 50,000 each.
According to the prosecution, Akhteruzzaman went to his father-in-law’s house at Mandarkandi on September 27, 2012 to bring back his wife Roksana Akhter Happy.
He locked into an altercation with his wife’s brothers.
At one stage, the three brothers hacked him, leaving him critically injured. Later, he died at Jahurul Islam Medical College Hospital.
Later, victim’s brother Ruhul Amin filed a case accusing four people. Among them, one died later.
After examining all the records and witnesses, additional district and sessions judge Mohammad Abdur Rahim handed down the verdict.
Suspected cattle thief lynched
UNB, Jashore
A suspected cattle thief was beaten to death by an agitated mob for trying to steal a cattle at Hariagop area of Keshabpur upazila in the district early Tuesday.
The deceased was identified as Naim Islam, 27, son of Moshiar Mia of Mulgram village of Keshabpur upazila.
Locals said they have been agonized in the last few days by frequent incidents centring the stealing of cattle in the village over the past few days.
Locals caught Naim in the early hours of Tuesday while he was trying to flee from a house riding a bicycle after a failed attempt to steal cattle.
Later, police recovered the body and sent it to Sadar Hospital for autopsy, said officer-in-charge of Keshabpur Police Station Shahin Mia confirming the matter.
Woman found dead in Satkhira

Police recovered the hanging body of a housewife from Brahmarajpur in Sadar upazila on Tuesday.
The deceased was identified as Akhi Bose, wife of Arup Bose of the village.
Sub-inspector Hasanuzzaman of Brahmmaraj Police outpost said Arup married to Akhi three years back.
Being informed by locals, police recovered the hanging body from her house in the morning and sent it to Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy, said the SI.
Josna Basu, mother of the victim claimed that Arup used to torture Akhi over family feud and he killed Akhi by pouring poison on her mouth and hanged the body with the ceiling fan. Mostafizur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station, said necessary legal action will be taken after filling of a complaint.
26,000kg honey collected in Jamalpur this year

Around 26910 kilograms honey were collected from mustard field in the district this year.
Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) officials said today honey collectors set up 3439 boxes in mustard field for collecting honey in the district this Robi season.
“Farmers already collected 26910 kilograms honey worth about Tk one crore,” they added.
They also said mustard was cultivated on 17290 hectares of land here but honey was collected from 3750 hectares of field. Most of the honey was collected from Bakshiganj upazila, officials said.
In Bakshiganj upazila, 13200-kg honey was collected by setting up 850 boxes on 900 hectares of land, 5000-kg from Sarishabari upazila, 4850-kg from Islampur, 900-kg from Melandaha, 1760-Kg from Dewanganj and 1200-kg from Madarganj.
