Workers of PHP Group galvanizing factory of Kumira in Sitakunda of Chattogram returned to work yesterday after demonstrating for five hours demanding increase in their salary.
At around 6:30am the workers went to work abstention and took position to the factory gate at Kumira of Sitakunda demanding an immediate solution and the protest continued till 11am. Later they returned to work through mediation of the industrial police.
The workers sat-in in front of the factory gate to press home their six-point demands. They demanded to fix the salary minimum Tk7, 500 for the new workers and to hike the salary in different categories up to Tk4,500 , said police.
On information industrial police, Chattogram Range Additional Superintendent of Police (SP) Mashiuddaula Reza, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sitakunda Police Station Mohammad Delowar Hossain rushed to the spot and talked with the factory officials and workers.
Mohammad Delowar Hossain, officer-in-charge of Sitakunda Police Station, said “The demands of the workers are logical. We have talked with the factory administration and they wanted one month time to solve the problem saying their owner is not in the country. We also talked with the representatives of the workers and asked to join the work. Getting our assurance they joined the work.”
