Youth Tigers’ runaway win over England Colts in first youth Test

Sports Reporter Dhaka

Left-arm spinner Minhazur Rahman’s outstanding bowling performance maneuvered Bangladesh Youth Tigers to post a runaway eight-wicket victory over visiting England Under-19 Cricket Team in the first youth Test of the two-Test series at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram yesterday.

England’s Colts second innings folded for paltry 152 in the wake of combined spin and pace bowling onslaught from the home side’s bowlers. But the spinners were the lethal among the bowlers specially Minhazur Rahman, who destroyed the English top-order batsmen with Asadullah Hill Galib.

It’s Minhazur Rahman, who got the first breakthrough for the home side when he preyed his first victim of opener George Baldersen while the English opener scored 10 from 49 balls that littered with a boundary.

The left-arm spinner picked up his second scalp of Tom Lammonby (12) following Asadullah Hill Galib’s successive three wickets that dented the tourists’ fighting intent further.

Minhazur showed his wicket-taking bursts with sheer spinning magic that ripped through the English lower-order batsmen’s late resistance. The spinner grabbed all the last four wickets and completed his career best six-wicket haul.

The youth spinner finished his bowling performance with the best figures of 25.3-16-28-6 following his first innings’ performance of 16-3-37-3. Finally the spinner was adjudged player-of-the-match award for his scintillating spin bowling performance.

That’s meant that Bangladesh youth Tigers needed only 35 more runs to win the match what they overhauled with ease in just 10 overs, losing two wickets.

England made a good start through their bowler Adam Finch, who removed opener Tanzid Hasan for five-ball duck. But they had nothing to do much because their target was too scanty to defend it unless any miracle is happened.

Therefore, when Bangladesh youth mislaid their second wicket of Amith Hasan, they were just a run away. Parvez Hossain struck a winning hit that slotted home with a big six. Parvez remained unbeaten on six with Shamim Hossain Patwary scoring 20.

Bangladesh youth Tigers’ declared their first innings at 398 for nine after England’s colts’ first innings total of 280.

The second and last youth Test that will be tour-ending match will begin at the same venue on February 15.
