Chittagong Abahani Limited tasted their second win in the Bangladesh Premier League Football after defeating brothers Union by 3-2 yesterday at the Bangbandhu National Stadium.
Besides an own goal of Brothers midfielder Shafiqul, Momodou Bah and Kowshik scored one goal each to steer Chittgaong Abahani to get back to the winning ways.
Lima Leonardo scored two goals to reduce the margin for Brothers Union.
Both Brothers and Chittagong Abahani, who suffered defeat in their previous match and could won only one match, started the game with huge obligation of winning the match and the former won the battle.
However, Ctg Abahani produced first attack with winning the ball well on the left and earned a corner and Kowshik’s left flank kick on the edge of the box, Brothers’ midfielder Shafiqul Islam while trying to clear the ball with a back header but instead the ball going away it entered into the top corner of their own net (1-0).
After the unexpected goal, both sides trying to settle down and working hard to occupy the full width of the pitch and were evenly in possession and Brothers were making deeper inroads in the opponents third.
The Gopibagh outfit looked well-oiled and were playing with the precision and confidence and typically expected to have goal and got it on 34th minute with Lima Leonardo on a Khan Mohammed Tara’s
set piece entered into the net (1-1).
Mamodou was very speedy to enter into the box and saw Brothers goalkeeper came out leaving the post open and did not make any mistake to place the ball into far post (2-1).
Trailing by 1-2 Brothers became in more offensive attitude but looked defense were not compacted and Chittagong Abahani capitalised the option and made the tally 3-1 on 56th minute.
This time it was a blunder of Brothers custodian Sujon when he failed grip a Shahed Hossain cross perfectly and Kowshik Barua closely marked the target (3-1).
Brothers being 1-3 behind were struggling much to make come back and also reduced another goal on 63rd minute with Lima Leonardo converted a penalty when Ctg Abahani defender Mufta Lawal handled a cross of Everton inside the area, referee Anisur Rahman directed for spot kick (2-3).
Sheikh Russel were very unfortunate not to retainining their winning spree when they had to share points conceding an own goal against Saif Sporting Club in the day’s other match of the league at the Rafique Uddin Bhuiyan
