Give more chances to local coaches: Salahuddin

Sports Reporter, Dhaka

Surpassing an array of foreign coaches, Khaled Mahmud and Mohammad Salahuddin repetitively led Dhaka Dynamites and Comilla Victorians to an exciting BPL final, the fact that will inspire the local coaches and encourage the board and franchisees as well to engage more local coaches in their teams.

Comilla Victorians ardent coach Mohammad Salahuddin thinks that the Bangladesh Crick Board (BCB) along with Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) franchisees should appoint more local coaches to tune up their knowledge for the national team.

Though the suggestion is not for the national team, Salahuddin believes they all should appoint them at age-level cricket so that they could groom them up and give their shoulder for the national team in future.

“I hope the local coaches will be much benefited,” said Mohammad Salahuddin, who coached Comilla Victorians to the 2019 BPL final after being championed in 2015.

“The way it starts, it was deemed that the local coaches are gradually losing their places. Even those who were assistant coaches limited their work scope. As we are the finalists, the franchisees will think they should give more chances to our local coaches in future,” Salahuddin told reporters in Mirpur yesterday.

“I always expect our local coaches can work in good places and learn more things.” he added.

Differing with the common nation, the successful coach at national circuit said that if you don’t give them opportunity how they will flourish themselves and show off their potential they have.

“The matter of the national team is a bit different because there are many pressures here in the national team than the franchisee tournament. So they will learn to take that pressure slowly,” the coach said.

“I hope that our local coaches would be appointed at age level cricket including Under-17, Under-19 or the A Team. I always hear that local coaches will not be able to guide the team but that idea is wrong. When you will give them chance they will show their credential. It’s not that we will come here after learning everything,” he also said.

“How we will learn if you don’t give us chance. If we have any lacking it’s the responsibility of the board to help them how they will fill up. The board should give their attention to the local coaches the way they focus on the players to improve their performance,” he added.
