Dhaka Dynamites captain Shakib Al Hasan is on the verge of a record ahead of their clash against Comilla Victorians in the final of the sixth edition of Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).
Shakib so far has 22 wickets in 14 matches and one more wicket in the final would make him the highest wicket-taker in a single edition of BPL history.
Shakib for the time being topped the bowling chart along with Taskin Ahmed, Mashrafe Bin Mortaza. While Taskin’s 22 wickets came in 12 matches, Mashrafe also took 14 matches like Shakib to claim 22 scalps.
However with both Mashrafe and Taskin’s team is out of the race, Shakib stood on chance to take more wickets in a single season of BPL. For this he needs just one wicket.
Shakib also took 22 wickets in the last season while Khulna Titans West Indies pacer Kevon Cooper claimed identical wickets in 2015 season. Shakib however failed to overtook Cooper in the last season despite coming agonizingly close.
Therefore the number 22 remains the highest scalps in a single edition of BPL.
Shakib has already been the most successful bowler of BPL history with 105 wickets in 75 matches while the next best is Mashrafe Mortaza’s 73 wickets in 74 matches.
