Meeting on higher education project held at UGC

A view-exchange meeting on the proposed ‘Higher Education Acceleration and Transformation (HEAT)’ project was held at UGC auditorium yesterday. UGC invited VCs, educationists, professors, high officials from World Bank and representatives from research organisations and industries and other relevant stakeholders to discuss the five-year long project. UGC Chairman Professor Abdul Mannan was present as chief guest while Professor Dr Mohammad Yousuf Ali Mollah, member of UGC, presided over the meeting. Professor Dr Dil Afroza Begum, member, UGC, Professor Dr Mesbah Uddin Ahmed, chairman, Bangladesh Accreditation Council, Professor Dr Mohammad Tamim, pro vice-chancellor, BRAC University, Professor Dr  Muhammed Zafar Iqbal and Dr Mokhlesur Rahman, senior operations officer, World Bank, among others spoke on the occasion. World Bank is taking the initiative to finance the project with a view to making a breakthrough in Bangladesh’s tertiary education and research through capacity building and enhancing employability of our graduates and establishing a regional network of higher educational institutions, said Prof Abdul Mannan.

DU Zahurul Hoque Hall sports contest held

The annual sports competition of Shaheed Sergeant Zahurul Hoque Hall of Dhaka University was held at the central playground of the university yesterday, says a press release. Alamgir Hossain, a student of 4th year BBA of the Department of Banking and Insurance, secured the 1st place while Abu Sadat Muhammad Saqib, 3rd year BA student of the Department of Islamic History and Culture, became runner-up in the sport competition. Dhaka University Pro-Vice Chancellor (Administration) Prof Muhammad Samad inaugurated the competition in the morning as chief guest. After the competition Vice-Chancellor Prof Akhtaruzzaman distributed prizes among the winners as chief guest. Provost of Shaheed Sergeant Zahurul Hoque Hall Prof Delwar Hossain, Advisor and Director of Physical Education Centre Prof M Ziaul Hoque Mamun, President of DU Athletics Committee Prof Md Nizamul Hoque Bhuiyan, house tutors, students of the hall and officials were present on this occasion.
