A surveillance team of Bangladesh Standard and Testing Institution (BSTI) yesterday destroyed over 4,000 jars of water as those were marketed without any approval from the BSTI. The BSTI vigilance team visited several small and medium scale water bottling factories in Ramna, Fakirerpool, Bangabazaar, Motijheel, Captanbazaar, Nawabpur, English Road, Babubazaar, Keraniganj and Shahidnagar early yesterday.
They found that water was bottled there in squalid condition inside the factory. There was no pre-caution taken to keep the jars free of harmful germs which could potentially be fatal to the health.
The BSTI team also destroyed the machineries—needed to bottle the water—of a number of factories. Another BSTI team yesterday also filed cases against seven organisations in Mirpur for their involvement in using faulty measurement devices.
The organisations against which BSTI filed cases included Banaful Sweetmeat, Haque Bakery, Janata Foods, MS D-gallary, Kasarika furnishing, Mohammad Fol Bhandar and the fruit shop owned by Shahadat Hossain.
