Ebadat feels his call-up in
NZ tour not unexpected

Uncapped pacer Ebadat Hossain doesn’t feel that his call-up in the New Zealand-bound Test squad was unexpected to him, stating that he indeed was ready for that.

He added that he would like to use his experience in New Zealand in the upcoming three-match Test series.

Ebadat's inclusion in the Test squad cannot be considered as a total surprise in fact as he was the highest wicket-taker amongst the pace bowlers in the Bangladesh Cricket League (BCL), country’s lone franchise-based first-class competition earlier in the 2018-19 season.

BCB HP unit can be credited for his impressive run as they kept on nursing him under the guidance and he also traveled to New Zealand with the national team as BCB opted to take him along with Nazmul Hossain Shanto as two promising stars whom they wanted to give some exposure at foreign soils.

“Actually I was ready for this Tests series,’’ said Ebadat. “Alhamdulillah, I have got the chance. I am grateful to Champaka Ramanayake as he gave me confidence and direction to turn out to be a Test prodigy,’’ he said.

“When I went to New Zealand in 2016, I realized that those wickets favour the bowlers especially the fast bowlers. Now, I have got the chance and I will prove myself,” the uncapped added.

Meanwhile, the 25-year-old Ebadat who made his first-class debut for Sylhet Division in September 2016, has picked up 59 wickets in 19 matches. In November 2018, playing for North Zone in the Bangladesh Cricket League, he bagged a 10-wicket haul in the match against Central Zone. He also bagged a four-wicket haul in Sylhet Sixers’ victory against Chittagong Vikings in a recent BPL game.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) formally named the replacements for injured paceman Taskin Ahmed in the ODI and Test squads for the forthcoming tour of New Zealand 2019.

Shafiul Islam has been included in the ODI team while fellow pacer Ebadat Hossain will join the Test side. Taskin, who had been originally named in both squads, has been ruled out of the series due to a lateral ligament injury to his left ankle.

An 11-member first batch including eight players- Soumya Sarkar, Liton Kumar Das, Mehidy Hasan Miraj, Mahmudullah Riyad, Naeem Hasan, Mushfiqur Rahim, Sabbir Rahman Rumman and Mustafizur Rahman will fly together.

Taskin was impressive in BPL after coming back from a lengthy injury layoff. For Sylhet Sixers, the speedster snapped up 22 wickets-the highest wickets in the competition so far what he got from 12- match road string that gave him the cause to recall him into the national team.

His shoddy form and injury kept him away from the last home and away series.

Shafiul is playing for Rangpur Riders in the ongoing BPL bagged 15 wickets in 12 matches so far. Ebadat, who was part of Sylhet Sixers, featured in four BPL outings and bagged five wickets which includes a four-wicket burst what he claimed against Chittagong Vikings in a group-leg match.
