Dhaka won’t disrespect Rangpur

Dhaka Dynamites head coach Khaled Mahmud  said that there is no way to disregard Rangpur Riders, the team  led by Mashrafe Bin Mortaza, whose shrewd leadership made the teams for whom he played for except 2016.

As a captain Mashrafe has four BPL titles out of last five editions—twice with Dhaka Gladiators (2012, 2013), one each with Comilla Victorians (2015) and Rangpur Riders (2017).

Dhaka Dynamites were beaten by Rangpur in the last BPL final in which Mashrafe led the side astutely.

Rangpur though was unarguably best batting unit in the tournament, they looked little off colour in the presence of AB de Villiers and Alex Hales. Their absence was profoundly felt in the Qualifier-1 game in which Comilla Victorians crushed them by eight wickets.

However Khaled Mahmud played down the revenge factor for their defeat at the hands of Rangpur in the last final.

“This is only a game and the team which will play well can win. If you say about revenge, then it will not be appropriate actually,” Mahmud said.

“In this tournament we have won one match they have won one as well. We are now 1-1 position. So I definitely think it is needed to execute the plan properly and that is very important. If we can do this properly then the chance will be higher. I think our team is more balanced. If we see our performance and line up then you can say that our team is more balanced. Without AB and Hales, Rangpur is in a back-foot of a little bit. However, what I have said before is that the team led by Mashrafe is always a good and challenging team.”

“I will then say cricket is a funny game. If we mention Benny Howell’s last match batting that was really good. So, I say that there is no way to disregard the team  led by Mashrafe,” he said.

“Rangpur is champion team and enough stronger team. We’re also stronger and well-balanced team. We’re playing good cricket, Mashaallah, meaning we bounced back from a worse position. Inshaallah, there will be a neck and neck fight, I think,” he continued. At league-round games, both the teams faced off twice, where they have win-loss record. But he said that the absence of AB de Villiers and Alex Hales will be a big boost for their confidence before getting down in the field again.

“It’s, of course, a matter of pressure free. AB means a dangerous player. And don’t mention the name of Alex Hales. But AB de Villiers is an exciting player. The way he played BPL that’s amazing. He encouraged Rnagpur Riders. Again, Hales batted excellent. So, they will have remained in back foot in their absence,” he thought.

“Along with that, it will be a boost for the confidence of our team. Earlier, their four top-order batsmen were on top. All are excellent cricketers. They always think who will be seated in side bench.  From that point of view, we feel a bit pressure free,” he added.
