Menon for vibrant regional tourism

Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Rashed Khan Menon has laid emphasis on attracting more South Asian tourists here utilising regional road connectivity for giving a boost to regional tourism, reports BSS.
“The connectivity question between Bangladesh and India has been solved. Recently, bus service has been started between Dhaka and Agartala, Shillong and Guwahati. Moreover, a motor vehicle agreement will be signed among Bangladesh, India, Bhutan and Nepal in Thimpu next month,” he said.
The minister was addressing the concluding ceremony of Familiarisation Tour-2015 at a city hotel on Saturday night.
Bangladesh Tourism Board (BTB) organised the tour here inviting nine Indian and two Bhutanese prominent tour operators to visit Bangladesh for promoting Bangladesh tourist attractions to the people of South Asia and other parts of the globe.
During the 10-day tour, the foreign tour operators visited different top most tourist attractions of Bangladesh include, Paharpur, Mahasthangarh, Sundarbans, Bandarban and Cox’s Bazar.
The minister hoped that the Bangladesh experience of Indian and Bhutanese tour operators will encourage them to send more regional and international tourists to Bangladesh.
He said the Bangladesh government has declared the tourism as a thrust sector and decided to observe 2016 as a tourism year. “I am expecting 10 lakh foreign tourists here during the year of 2016,” he added.
