Seed dealers observe indefinite strike

cancellation of 10pc tax demanded

Seed dealers of Bangladesh Agriculture Development Corporation (BADC) in Narsingdi area stopped activities and called indefinite strike demanding cancellation of 10 per cent tax yesterday. All BADC dealers organised a protest meeting in front of Narsingdi District BADC sales office premises in Narsingdi town. Speakers urged the higher authorities to cancel the 10 per cent new tax. Dealers also urged to increase their commission to 20 per cent from 13 per cent. They said all the seed dealers should also be allowed to withdraw fertiliser from factory as a listed trader. They said a total of 100 tonnes of Boro paddy seeds, 4 tonnes of mustard seeds and other seeds have been piled up at BADC warehouses.  The protest meeting was presided over by Amir Hossain Sikdar, central vice president of Seeds Dealer Association. Among others, district unit president of Seeds Dealers Association Abdus Salam, Secretary Billal Hossain, Motior Rahman, Zakir Hossain, Amzad Hossain, Apel Mahmud and Zainal Abedin attended the meeting.
