Businesses should use waterways between Bangladesh and India more to reduce congestion at land ports and roads, according to speakers at a business conclave yesterday.
They urged businessmen to opt for coastal waterways to transport cargoes as it would be cheaper and take less time.
They came up with the remarks in a conclave on “Maritime Industry: India-Bangladesh Opportunities Ahead” at Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel in the city yesterday.
The India-Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce (IBCC) and India Chamber Of Commerce jointly organised the event, which focused on waterways connectivity in South Asian countries, especially with Bangladesh.
Though the coastal shipping agreement between the two countries allows the use of the country’s ports, most of the imports from India come through Petrapole and Benapole land ports, said IBCC president Matlub Ahmad.
