2 get 14 yrs jail for abducting schoolgirl in Jashore

A court here on Wednesday sentenced two people to 14 years imprisonment for abducting a schoolgirl in 2006. The court also fined the two convicts—Wasim Sheikh, son of Ibad Ali and Babul Morol, son of Akkel Ali---Tk 10,000 each, in default, to suffer two years more rigorous imprisonment. According to the prosecution, the convicts along with two others associates abducted a class IX student of Purakhali Secondary School of Abhoynagar upazila on September 29, 2006. When victim’s father filed a case with Abhoynagar Police Station they rescued the girl. Police submitted chargesheet against the four people in the case. After examining records and witnesses Jashore Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal Judge TM Musa handed down the verdict acquitting two other accused as allegations brought against them could not be proved.


Second grader ‘raped’ in Jashore

A Class-II girl has allegedly been raped by a neighbour at Kamarpara of Jhikargachha upazila of the district. Victim's mother filed a case with Jhikargachha Police Station on Wednesday evening in this regard and the victim was sent to Jashore General Hospital for medical test, said sub-inspector of the police station Nazrul Islam. He said Nur Islam, 45, son of late Rabiul Islam, violated the girl on January 26 while she was collecting firewood by their house. Hearing victim's screams, locals rushed to the pot but Nur managed to flee, the police officer said.

Firearms seized in C’nawabganj

Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) recovered four one shooter guns, a pistol, two magazines and six rounds of bullet from Naldubi area under Shibganj upazila of the district along Indian border on Wednesday night. BGB sources said, acting on a tip off, a special patrol team of the force raided the aforesaid area at around 10-55 pm when a mishuk, locally assembled vehicle, was coming from the Indian side. Sensing presence of the border security force, the driver of the mishuk fled away. During searching the vehicle, the BGB found the firearms and ammunition. Later, the recovered firearms and ammunition were deposited with Shibganj police station.


24 arrested in Dinajpur

Law enforcers, in special drives arrested 24 persons including 16 drug traders from different areas of the district in last 12-hour ending at 8am yesterday morning. Law enforcers also seized 150 bottles of Phensidyl, 300 liters of locally-made liquor, 152 pieces of Yaba tablets and 2,200 pieces of cow fattening tablets during the drives. Police said they were picked up from different areas of the district on different charges. During the drives, Dinajpur Sadar police arrested four persons including two drug trades along with 300 liters of locally-made liquor, Birganj Thana police arrested six drug traders, Birampur Thana police arrested four persons including two drug traders along with 50 bottles of Phensidyl, Hakimpur Thana police arrested two persons and Kaharole Thana police arrested two persons. Several cases, including charges of subversive activities, are pending with different police stations against the arrested persons, the sources added. Meanwhile, members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in a drive detained six drug traders along with 100 bottles of Phensidyl, 152 pieces of Yaba tablets and 2,200 pieces of cow fattening tablets around 7am from Hili Railway Station in Hakimpur upazila of the district. Later, the detained persons were handed over to the Hakimpur Thana police, BGB said. The arrested persons were sent to jail.
