Khairul Hossain, chairman of Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC), yesterday expressed his optimism that the next year would usher in a new era for the capital markets in the country due to some measures undertaken by the government.
The BSEC chairman said this while inaugurating the two-day long CSE Capital Market Fair 2015 at GEC Convention Centre in the city.
“The contribution of the CSE to capital market is likely to increase from 7 per cent to 25 per cent provided the country is not affected by political and social unrest,” hoped Prof Khairul.
“I can foresee bright prospect ahead of the capital market in the country. I can assure you that the next year will emerge as a take-off period,” assured Prof Khairul.
“It is a recent trend of the global capital market that many stock exchanges are working together. We are considering the situation whether two stock exchanges can exist in the country. However, the
time is not ripe yet for this,” added the BSEC chairman.
“The CSE should also ensure a situation where the investors will not worry about transparency, accountability and market manipulation. The investors of the country should equip themselves with much knowledge. The investors should have analysing capacity,” suggested the BSEC chairman.
The CSE Chairman Muhammad Abdul Mazid said that they had organised the fair in order to orientate the investors of the premier port city towards the capital market.
While addressing the inaugural ceremony as, the CSE chairman also sought cooperation from all concerned to expand the role of the CSE in the capital market of the country.
