BARISAL: A court here yesterday sentenced one person to death for killing his wife at Lakhoraj-Kosba village under Gournadi upazila of the district in 2010. The court also fined him Taka 50,000, in default, to suffer two months more in jail. Additional District and Session Judge M Adib Ali handed down the verdict. The convict is Mostafa Sarder, son of Harem Ali of the same area. The prosecution story, in brief, is that Mostafa killed his wife Kohinur Begum on February 4, 2010 over a family matter. The victim’s father Azmat Ali filed a murder case on the same day with Gournadi Thana against four persons. Sub inspector of the Thana Sahajahan Khalifa, also investigation officer of the case, after investigation submitted charge-sheet before the court against three persons.
