Vikings look to return to winning track today

Sports Reporter from Chattogram

Table-toppers Chittagong Vikings will be looking to return to winning way following their back-to-back shocking drubbing in fourth leg at home turf as they will take on Comilla Victorians in the day’s first fixture of the ongoing phase of the BPL today.

The match will be played at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium (ZACS) in Chattogram at 1:30pm.

The way Chittagong Vikings started their BPL campaign in style without any big name player and snatched the top spot of the points table from Dhaka Dynamites with their consistent performance, they then lost two back-to-back matches closely at home yard but still they are on pole position with the highest 12 points.

They have three match remained, two of which they will play in the back-to-back at home yard against Dhaka Dynamites on Wednesday after today’s Victorians’ match. Their key finisher, Robert Frylinck, who was absent in last match against Rajshahi Kings due to his injury,  might be played for them.

Viking head coach Simon Helmot said that they are looking to come back in winning way to remain on top of the points-table of the BPL Twenty20 Tournament. He also said that he regret for not winning the last game what he thought should have won for the local crowd, who appeared to stadium en masse to support and encourage their team.

“We’re very disappointed that we’ve lost our first two home matches,” said Simon Helmut.

“But I’m very happy that we’ve won the six matches before. This can happen in T20 cricket. Obviously against Rangpur we’d two guys making hundred runs against us which is an extra ordinary effort and last match we missed an opportunity,” Helmut told reporters after their pre-match day practice session yesterday.

Vikings’ head coach said that they want to triumph the next match to have delighted their local fans, who came here at stadium and supported the team but they are yet to win any match for them.

“Message to our home team is thank you for all your support when we are in Dhaka, when we are in Sylhet now we are in Chittagong. We love our fans and we want to perform for our fans,” Australia-born coach said.

“I hope we can have a winning performance for our fans. It’s so important we’ve really good support all over Bangladesh not just in Chittagong. That’s what, we had we look forward to lots of home crowd tomorrow at our day game our first day game in here,” he also said.

However, holders Rangpur Riders will compete against Rajshahi Kings in the second fixture of the day at the same venue at 6:30pm.
