curb on question leak

Coaching centres to be shut during SSC exams

Staff Reporter, Dhaka

The government has decided to shut down all types of coaching centres for one month during the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examination, which would begin on February 2. The education ministry said the coaching centres will be shut from January 27 to February 27. “We have asked the authorities of all coaching centres to shut down their centres for one month during the SSC and equivalent examinations in order to curb the chances of question paper leak,” education minister Dipu Moni said yesterday. The decision was taken at a meeting of the education ministry’s National Monitoring Committee ahead of the SSC and equivalent examinations in the secretariat. The minister also said no one would be allowed to carry mobile phones inside the examination halls, except the secretaries of the exam centres. However, the centre secretary cannot carry any smart phone during the exams. In addition, the minister said the questions papers would be sent to the exam centres in sealed aluminium packets to prevent leaks.

Sources said the aluminium foil was a good measure to resist question paper leak because if anybody opened a packet before the scheduled time, it could not be sealed again. The minister also said examinees would have to enter the examination hall 30 minutes prior to the start of a paper.
