Bangladesh is lagging behind in Ease of Doing Business index due to bureaucratic complications, speakers said at a workshop yesterday.
They also said the modern equipment and technology as well as hassle-free services are needed to improve its position in Ease of Doing Business index.
“If we can ensure modern equipment and technology, the country will move up in the index very soon”, they added.
The customs officials and the businesspersons came up with the observation at a workshop on modernisation of customs and establishing components held at Chattogram Custom House in the port city.
Speakers in the workshop said Bangladesh ranked 176th out of 190 countries in the World Bank's Ease of Doing Business index last year due to various problems.
Officials of the National Board of Revenue (NBR) said that the usages of modern equipment and technology are being increased to reduce hassles in trading.
The customs officials also said steps have been taken to modernise the customs to make the business hassle free
NBR board member (Audit, modernisation & International business) Khandaker Md Aminur Rahman inaugurated the workshop as chief guest, while former member Bangladesh Trade Facilitation Activity’s team member Md Nasir Uddin was present as special guest, Chattogram Custom House Commissioner AKM Nuruzaman presided over the workshop while other custom officials and businessmen were present.
