Less than a month into the gang rape of a woman in Nokhali’s Subarnachar upazila, another woman, now a mother of three, was allegedly gang-raped by a group of miscreants at Kabirhat upazila of the same district early yesterday. The Subarnachar incident took place on December 31, a day after the 11th national election. The victim has filed a case with Kabirhat Police Station naming one Zakir Hossain and three unnamed people in connection. The police have already arrested Zakir, a local grocer.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kabirhat Police Station Mirza Md Hasan confirmed the incident and said the 29-year-old mother of three was allegedly raped early yesterday by four men, after they forced into the victim’s house.
The perpetrators tied the victim’s children and raped her, the OC added. “The victim came to the police station around 1pm and accused four people, including Zakir, of raping her and fleeing the scene with her valuables,” the OC said, adding, “The accused took advantage of the absence of the victim’s husband, a local mason, who is currently in jail.”
“The victim recognised Zakir, but is not sure about the identities of the three others. The victim was later sent to Noakhali General Hospital for necessary medical tests,” said OC Hasan. He said the police were conducting a drive to arrest the culprits.
Meanwhile, the victim’s uncle, quoting her, said the perpetrators forced into the house around 1am and sexually violated the victim after tying her children as she refused to give the attackers some cash they demanded. They later left robbing the woman of some money and gold ornaments, he added.
