Man held over rape attempt

A man was arrested on charge of attempt to rape a minor girl behind the Mujtaba Ali Hall of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) yesterday afternoon.

He was identified as Abdus Salam, 35, a van-driver of Gabindaganj Pirpur village of Sunamganj.

According to witnesses, the man attempted to rape a minor girl about 6. After hearing her scream, the students along with some locals caught him and handed over to university authorities. The person acknowledged the matter to the university authority.

Later, SUST Proctor Muhammad Samiul Islam handed over the man to Jalalabad police.

Jalalabad police station in-charge Harunoor Rashid said, “The university administration handed-over a person to us over charge of rape-attempt and we will take action against this incident”.
