Bangladesh Road Transport Workers Federation and Mawa Bus Owners’ Association enforced an indefinite bus strike on Dhaka-Mawa route from yesterday protesting collection of Tk 40 as toll at the Shimulia Parking Yard by Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA). Following the transport strike, thousands of passengers got stranded at Shimulia-Mawa terminal. Mawa Bus Owners’ Association leader Md Shiekh said that there was no record of toll collection on Dhaka-Mawa route, but BIWTA has ‘illegally’ started collecting toll from the buses recently. Protesting the toll collection the two associations have called bus strike on Dhaka-Mawa route and the ongoing strike will continue until the cancellation of toll collection. Shimulia ghat bus parking lessee Lutfor Rahman Talukder said that he took the lease as per rule and started collecting toll legally. BIWTA Shimulia ghat port officer Mohiuddin said maintaining all rules and regulations BIWTA has started toll collection.
