SC extend Fakhrul�s bail till Nov 2
The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court yesterday extended till November 2 its earlier order that had granted bail to Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Acting Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir in three vandalism and arson cases.
Chamber Judge of the Appellate Division Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain passed the order after Fakhruls lawyer Zainul Abedin sought the bail extension saying Fakhrul is still ill and is scheduled to go abroad for medical check up on October 19. The chamber judge also sent the petitions to the full bench of the Appellate Division and fixed November 2 for hearing on the petitions.
The Appellate Division on July 13 granted bail to the BNP leader for six weeks in the cases on health ground. The court also had directed Fakhrul to surrender before a lower court after expiry of the six weeks.
Later on August 31, the apex court extended Fakhruls bail for six weeks who was then staying in USA for treatment.
A four-member bench headed by the chief justice SK Sinha granted the bail extension after Fakhruls lawyers moved a petition seeking extension of his bail referring to doctors prescription issued from the USA.
On July 13, the same bench had granted Fakhruls bail for six weeks as per the recommendation of a medical board of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University.
The Dhaka Central Jail authorities, on July 14, released Fakhrul.
Fakhrul went to Singapore on July 26 for treatment. Later on August 10, the BNP secretary-general left Singapore for the USA for better medical treatment.
