A fierce fire broke out in a seven-storey textile mill at Betjuri in Sreepur upazila yesterday. Fire service sources said the fire broke out on the second floor of ‘Dignity Textile Mill’ around 2:15 pm and soon spread to its 3rd floor. Deputy Assistant Director of Gazipur fire service Akteruzzaman Liton said twelve units of fire service from Tongi, Mawna, Joydebpur, Kaliakoir and Bhaluka of Mymensingh rushed in and were trying to douse the blaze. Huge amount of cotton, clothes and others equipments were gutted in the incident. The fire might have originated from an electric short circuit, said he. The mill authorities claimed that no one was injured as around 3000 workers of the factory were out on lunch at that time. Administration Manager of the factory Nazmun Nahar Kemu said “Machines and other equipments on the third floor burnt in the fire. But no worker was injured in the incident.”
