No trace of four abducted in CHT

Two traders freed �by ransom� in Bandarban

Two traders abducted on Sunday in Alikadam upazila of Bandarban were released on Monday after a Tk 3 lakh ransom was paid to the criminals, said family members of the abductees. Meanwhile, 4 people including 2 tourists adducted in Bilaichhari upazila of Rangamati on October 4 still remain missing.
The traders, Saiful Islam and Ali Hossain, were freed from a criminal den in remote Kaccapjiri area in Alikadam of Bandarban district at 7pm on Monday after Tk 3 lakh was paid in cash to the abductors as ransom, claimed their family members.
The two traders hailed from Boramuhuri village in Chakaria upazila of Cox’s Bazar and were engaged in trading work at Alikadam Bazar in Bandarban.
Saiful Islam and Ali Hossain were abducted by a gang of armed men, suspected members of Mro National Party (MNP) from Alikadam on October 4 morning. After the local police was informed of the incident, a joint police, army and BGB team conducted raids in different areas of the district, but could not trace the victims.
Police said that numerous raids were made to rescue the victims and the abductors, at one point, released the two traders.
Meanwhile, police, BGB and army are conducting joint raids in various parts of Rangamati and Bandarban to rescue the four people abducted on Sunday evening.
According to locals, suspected armed criminals, belonging to Arakan Army (AA) and Arakan Liberation Party (ALP), attacked and kidnapped Tourist M Munna and Jabiullah Jobayer along with a local guide named Mongsha Mro from remote Seprue para village under Bilaichhari upazila in Rangamati, bordering India and Myanmar.
On the same day, a local tourist guide named Lalging Bowm was also abducted at noon by armed criminals, suspected to be members of the same group, from remote Ananda Para near Kyakradong tourist spot area under Ruma upazila of Bandarban district.
Bratali UP Chairman Atumong Marma told The Independent that the criminals may have taken their victims across the border to India or Myanmar where AA and ALP operate camps. The border to both India and Myanmar is just 6 hours walk from the crime scene, he said.
Bilaichhari Police OC Manjurul Alam said  a case has been filed with the police station over the abductions.  BGB Bandarban Sector Commander Coloner SM Oliur Rahman said “The BGB, army and police are conducting joint raids to find the missing persons.”
