Two killed in road crash
UNB, Keraniganj

An auto-rickshaw driver and a passenger were killed when a bus rammed the vehicle in Abdullahpur stand area here yesterday morning. The details of the deceased could not be known immediately. The accident took place when a bus rammed the auto-rickshaw in the area, leaving the duo dead on the spot, said Golam Morshed Talukder, officer-in-charge of Hasara Highway Police Station.

Loaded truck hit a train engine
Correspondent, Sylhet

A loaded truck was broken into two pieces after colliding head on with a train engine on a crossing road at Sylhet railway station. None has been injured in this accident. The accident took place on Saturday night at around 8.30pm when a loaded truck, coming from the city, hit the rail engine.  In the accident, the driver’s cabin of the truck was broken into two pieces. Later, police removed the wreckage of the truck from the spot. South Surma Police Station Sub-inspector Ataur Rahman said, “None was injured in this accident but we are investigating into the incident”.
 

GF council from Mar 23-24
UNB, Dhaka

As part of its move to strengthen the party’s organisational capacity, Gono Forum will hold its national council on March 23-24 in the capital. The party is also planning to hold a public rally in the city by this month. The decisions to hold the council and the rally were taken at a meeting of Gono Forum central committee held at its Arambagh office on Saturday.
Talking to reporters after the meeting, party president Dr Kamal Hossain said they had good discussions at the meeting, and took various decisions with a consensus.


Dr Wazed’s birthday programme
BSS, Rangpur

Dr Wazed Smriti Sangsad (DWSS) has taken an elaborate programme to celebrate the 77th birthday of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s husband and noted nuclear scientist Dr MA Wazed Miah here on February 15 and 16. The two-day programme was finalised at a meeting of the DWSS executive committee at its temporary office on the second floor of Press Club Complex here on Saturday night, a press release said yesterday. Vice-president of DWSS and noted lawyer Advocate Deepak Kumar Saha presided over the meeting moderated by its general secretary Saiful Islam Jahangir.


Hungarian FM greets Dr Momen

Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto on Saturday congratulated Dr A K Abdul Momen on his appointment as the Foreign Minister of Bangladesh. In a message, the Hungarian Foreign Minister reiterated his commitment to enhance bilateral relations with Bangladesh and expressed his optimism to work with the newly appointed Bangladesh Foreign Minister, said a press release.

Debendra Nath remembered

The 20th death anniversary of Biplobi Debendra Nath Ghosh, the legendary socio-political personality of the region and fighter of anti-imperialism and human rights movement, was observed with due respect on Saturday. To mark the day, ‘Biplobi Deben Ghosh Smriti Rokkha Committee’ arranged religious rituals, floral tributes at his cremation ground in morning.
