IU English dept chairman takes charge

Prof Dr Salma Sultana of English department took charge as the new chairman of the department of Islamic University (IU) in Kushtia yesterday. IU Vice-Chancellor Prof M Harun-Ur-Rashid Askari was present on the occasion as the chief guest with Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof M Shahinoor Rahman, and its Treasurer Prof M Selim Toha were attend as the special guest. The university Vice-Chancellor appointed him to the post for the next one year, acting registrar in-charge SM Abdul Lotif told Independent on Sunday. He replaced Prof Dr AHM Aktarul Islam of the same department, the registrar added.
Inter-department cricket tournament begins

The fifth Inter-department Cricket Tournament 2019 began at Jagannath University (JnU) central playground (Dhupkhola) yesterday. JnU vice-chancellor Prof Mizanur Rahman inaugurated the competition organised by the JnU sports sub-committee (cricket) yesterday at 11am. The inauguration programme was presided over by Mohammad Abdul Baki, the convener of the sub-committee of sports. Dr Ali Noor, convener of JnU sports committee, was also present as special guest. It is to be noted that 36 departments are participating in the 5th inter-department cricket competition and it will continue till February 5.
5th annual GOBESHONA confce ends at IUB

The fifth annual GOBESHONA conference on climate change ended on Friday laying emphasis on domestic capacity building to tackle the adverse impacts of climate change on Bangladesh. The International Centre for Climate Change and Development (ICCCAD) of IUB organised the four-day conference on Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) campus at Bashundhara, Dhaka. Dr Shamsul Alam, Senior Secretary and Member General Economics Division, Ministry of Planning, attended the programme as chief guest. Prof M Omar Rahman, Vice-Chancellor, IUB, Chaired the closing ceremony. Ban Ki-moon, who was the eighth Secretary General of the United Nations, sent a video message to this closing session of GOBESHONA that was displayed for the audience. A total of 26 sessions took place while, 69 research and 14 keynote papers and 4 videos were presented through the 4-day conference. It was declared that the 6th Annual GOBESHONA Conference will take place at IUB from January 8-11, 2020.
