Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Mohammad Sayeed Khokon yesterday said if food adulteration is found, offenders will be awarded imprisonment along with fine for the malpractices. “Anti-adulteration drive is being conducted. But we are yet to stop food adulteration. The menace has to be wiped out to the greater interests of the consumers,” he told newsmen while inaugurating a special anti-adulteration drive at Dhanmondi in the capital. Replying to a question, the mayor said, “From now on if it is found that someone is involved in food adulteration then he or she would be awarded imprisonment. During the function, DSCC Chief executive Officer Mostafizur Rahman, Chief Health Officer Brigadier General Sheikh M Salahuddin and officials concerned were present.
Later, he along with the DSCC anti-adulteration team inspected different restaurants and food shops and fined Taka 5,000 to Star Kebab, Taka 1,00,000 to Sultan Dine and Taka 3,000 to BB Q in city’s Dhanmondi area.
