The transport workers’ in Chattogram yesterday called off their strike at noon which was called in the morning protesting the assault on transport workers’ allegedly by local MP Didarul Alam at Sitakunda in Chattogram on January 10. In a press briefing Bangladesh Sarark Paribahan Sramik Federation around 11am yesterday at Chattogram Press Club called a 48-hour transport strike in Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Rangamati, Bandarban, Khargachari districts.
However, another portion of the transport workers’ after holding a meeting with Chattogram District Deputy Commissioner Elius Hossain suspended the strike called in the morning. Elius Hossain said, “It was a misunderstanding. After discussion, the workers called off their strike.”
Didadul Alam MP has denied the allegations of assaulting the transport workers’ leader.
