As a part of the ongoing 17th edition of ‘Dhaka International Film Festival’ (DIFF), A Turkish feature film ‘The Pigeon Thieves’, directed by Osman Nail Dogan, and a Bangladeshi film ‘Sanaton Golpo’ (The Ancient Trap), directed by Masum Aziz, will be screened today at the Public Library Auditorium in Shahbag of the capital.
‘The Pigeon Thieves’ will be screened at 3pm in the Asian Competition section of the festival, while ‘Sanaton Golpo’ will be screened at 7pm in Bangladesh Panorama section.
In the ‘The Pigeon Thieves’, the 16-year-old Mahmut’s life consists of feeding pigeons and making money from stealing others’ pigeons. His biggest dream is to have the best pigeons. One day, he meets Ismail, an 8-year-old living in that house. This meeting becomes one of the most important turning points that will affect both lives.
On the other hand, ‘Sanaton Golpo’ is a story of distressed people chained by a magical way of exploitation. It’s a regular process to trap a section of people by taking advantages of their poverty.
Besides these two films, Iranian film ‘Kati and Setareh’ directed by Reza Majlesi, Philippine independent drama film ‘Signal Rock’ directed by Chito S. Rono and Bangladeshi feature film ‘Jonmo Bhumee’ (The Birthland) by Proshun Rahman will be screened today at the same venue at 10am, 1pm and 5:30pm respectively.
