Health and Family Welfare Minister Mohammad Nasim yesterday expressed dissatisfaction over the absence of most doctors, nurses, officials and employees at National Institute of Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) at Tejgaon in the capital, reports BSS. He expressed his dissatisfaction during a surprise visit to the ENT institute and hospital at 2:15 pm, said an official release. During the visit, the minister found none in the reception room. Only one nurse was on duty in the hospital at that time. Though the minister found the director of the hospital, most of the officials and employees were absent. The health minister went round different wards of the hospital and found 20 patients though the number of indoor patients was mentioned as 28 in documents. He expressed resentment over the situation and ordered director Dr Zahedul Alam to serve show cause notices on the absentees. Otherwise, the director would be removed, he warned. Mohammad Nasim said the move of the government to ensure world standard health services for the people through this specialized hospital would not be allowed to foil because of the negligence of a number of officials and employees. He directed the authorities to inform the people about this hospital and ensure a patient-friendly environment there. Department of Health Director General Prof Dr Deen M Nurul Haq, Director (Hospital) Prof Dr Shamiul Islam and Bangladesh Medical Association Secretary General Prof Dr M Iqbal Arsalan accompanied the minister.
