DU VC gets World Teachers' Day Award
Dhaka University (DU) Vice-Chancellor AAMS Arefin Siddique was awarded ‘World Teachers' Day Award’ for his outstanding contribution to the development of education and research in the country. Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid handed over the award to Professor Arefin as the chief guest at a function held on Monday at the TSC auditorium of DU. World Teachers' Day-2015 National Observance Committee organised the event to mark the day. Chief Coordinator of National Front of Teachers & Employees (NFTE) Professor Quazi Faruque Ahmed presided over the function while Vice-President of Global Campaign for Education (GCE) Rasheda K Chowdhury and Officer-in-Charge of UNESCO, Dhaka Kiichi Oyasu addressed it as special guests. Seven other eminent educationists of the country have also received the World Teachers' Day Award this year.
US evaluation team visits NSU
An evaluation team from the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programmes (ACBSP), USA, under the supervision of Douglas Gilbert, Dolgormaa Jamiyan and Professor Umesh Chandrasekhar visited the School of Business and Economics (SBE), North South University (NSU) on Monday, says a press release.
MA Kashem, chairman, Board of Trustees of NSU, Gour Gobinda Goswami, vice-chancellor (in-charge) and Mahboob Rahman, dean, School of Business and Economics, NSU, welcomed members of the evaluation team on the NSU campus.
NSU SBE is the first Bangladeshi business school that received candidacy for American accreditation and is now at the final stages of obtaining accreditation.
In the evening, NSU hosted an exclusive gala dinner for an aristocratic assembly from industrial, editor, academic, bureaucratic sector of the country at Le Méridian, in the capital.
RU for an effective audit management system
RAJSHAHI: Rajshahi University (RU) authority yesterday puts emphasis on an effective audit management system for transparency and accountability in its accounts.
"We are very much interested and optimistic about establishing a transparent accounts system," Mijanuddin, vice-chancellor of RU, asserted adding that there should be adequate measures of ensuring transparency and accountability in all the accounts relating to earning and expenditure of all the public universities including RU side by side with the private ones.
He made the observation while holding a meeting with Mahtab Uddin, director general of Local and Revenue Audit Directorate, on RU campus.
Pro-VC Chowdhury Sarwar Jahan, Treasurer Sayen Uddin, Registrar Entajul Haque and Director of Accounts Ashraful Huda, among others, were Present at the
meeting.
Prof Mijanuddin told the meeting that RU Senate Meeting in May last approved its annual budget worth Tk 294.70 crore for 2015-16 fiscal besides approving the revised budget of Tk 270.80 crore for 2014-15 fiscal. Service tenure of the officers and employees of the university was also elevated to 62 years from existing 60 years.
He sought cooperation from the audit department for making the RU's accounts and audit system more improved and effective.
